If you want broader horizons, seasonal fields, and dramatic mountain backdrops without a full-day road trip, stepping 1–1.5 hours outside the city is the sweet spot. From sweeping mountain-view valleys to seasonal tulip fields, these locations bring incredible scale and unique textures into your photos.

Snoqualmie Valley Fields & Mt. Si Views (Snoqualmie / North Bend)

Why I Love It: If you’re looking for sweeping open fields, tall golden grass, and the towering silhouette of Mount Si in the background, this area is magic. It gives you that epic, cinematic Pacific Northwest feel just an hour outside the city. Plus, the Snoqualmie Valley is famous for its wild elk herds, so it’s not unusual to spot elk grazing in the distance while we shoot!

A quick photographer tip: Open fields offer zero shade! On sunny days, shooting right before sunset is key for soft, flattering light behind the mountain. But don’t fear overcast weather—cloudy skies and fog wrapping around Mount Si look absolutely unreal here.

Skagit Valley Tulip Fields (Mount Vernon)

Why I Love It: Spring in the Pacific Northwest doesn’t get more vibrant than this. Endless rows of bright, saturated tulips stretching toward the horizon give your photos a stunning, editorial feel that you simply can’t replicate anywhere else.

A quick photographer tip: Tulip farms operate on strict open hours, so you can’t just walk in at sunrise! Peak bloom season (April) brings massive weekend crowds and heavy traffic. I strongly recommend booking a weekday session near golden hour/sunset when the fields clear out a bit and the evening light hits the flowers beautifully. Note: Admission tickets are required and covered by the client.
